Some Christians believe Jesus will come back to fix this corrupt world.
Certain Jewish sects propose that the messiah will soon appear on Earth for the first time.
Among Muslims, many predict the legendary Twelfth Imam will return and bring salvation to humanity.

In India, devotees of Vishnu expect the avatar Kalki to arrive on the scene and carry out a series of miraculous redemptions. Even Buddhists prophesy Maitreya, the chosen one who will establish universal peace.

My divinations foretell a very different scenario. I suspect that the whole point of our spectacularly confounding moment in history is that each of us must become our own savior. And if we hope to accomplish that, relying on our best amateur efforts, we will have to stop waiting around for a supposed professional to do our work for us.

Franz Kafka had a view that’s not necessarily mutually exclusive with mine:
“The messiah will come when we don’t need him anymore.”

Let’s also consider the evidence offered by William Blake, as quoted in *Poets and God* by David L. Edwards:
“Jesus Christ is the only God. And so am I. And so are you.”

One more clue, this time from Deepak Chopra: “Every person is a God in embryo. Its only desire is to be born.”

You do not have to be good
You do not have to walk on your knees

A good traveler has no fixed plans
and is not intent upon arriving.
A good artist lets his intuition
lead him wherever it wants.
A good scientist has freed himself of concepts
and keeps his mind open to what is.
Thus the master is available to all people
and doesn’t reject anyone.
He is ready to use all situations
and doesn’t waste anything.
This is called embodying the light.
What is a good man but a bad man’s teacher?
What is a bad man but a good man’s job?
If you don’t understand this, you will get lost,
however intelligent you are.

Beginning time by Frank Howell

The beginning of each new day means that I am born anew into a world Where hatred, fear, and jealousy vanish on a tongue of hope licking away sorrow and despair

The magpie and the prairie dog lead me toward the rising Sun. In its holy path I see The embryo face of time’s child, telling me that youth’s determination to unlearn the lessons of an impoverished world is given strength at dawn.

The middle years of life’s long afternoon promise nothing more than summer every year. The jealous shadows of yesterday are merely tomorrow’s old men, resisting the knuckles of old age.

In the beginning time of such overlapping generations lies the indistinct history of restless skeletons. Listen! They are singing the songs of children and embryos. They are preparing the earth for you to dance upon.
