More on Music…

“If I run like the river runs
If I fall like water falls
Oh if I breathe like the wind
Will I ever learn it all?
If I change like autumn leaves
If I grow like summer weeds
If I’m quiet as snow
Will I ever know it all, learn it all”

—-Lyrics from Run this Way Forever by Michael Tomlinson

The recent post on music has spurred me to set up a music area in our ever-growing bookstore and to meander through memory for a moment on those talented individuals that inspire me with lyric and song.

These incredible troubadours are  those teachers that quietly plant themselves into the recesses of your heart and do nothing more than be who they are , allowing you to step into that special space they’ve created for you whenever you need  to catch your breath, cry on their shoulder, be enlivened and refreshed, be that flint for your spark of inspiration and so much more.  We all have them, our own Bodhisattvas of lyric and tune.  Their form and style and method as limitless as the starscape.  Each inspiring us in their own uniquely divine way.

The gentleman whose lyrics you read at the beginning of this entry is one of those in my experience.

Having made the choice to pull away from the illusions of  the “big label” music industry, Michael Tomlinson has carried on a vigilant, loving journey, putting himself out there everyday and letting his songs do the talking, his lyrics the walking as he’s played his version of the pied piper to the listening heart.

I could go on and on about my 15+ year “affair” with this gentleman, but I prefer just to allow his work/play to recite the tale in it’s own inimitable way and know that he will find that place in your heart and well …just settle in for a while!
