Right This Second

nowReading at Koloa 06/18/09

I want to know about now
the now beneath my fingertips
gone already, once aware of itself
only in knowing it was, however briefly

now, already left redundant
not caring what came next
any more than what passed,
now, not caring whether moments exist
when they disappear

as footsteps erased by concrete
now, no forward, no back, was but
a motion carried by the ambling of tree trunks
forever round and still beside the road

now was a chance to hurry nowhere
without dashing to become more
or something imagined much greater
in the overgrowth of thens and tomorrows

I want to be that now
the moment gone and gone and gone
how many chances will I have
to exist in such interim
before the next one comes again.

Now.
